I'm so confused with the Megaupload issue. I will say it this way and I know that many American friends may be offended but I won't censor myself.

WHEN DID GOD DIE AND MADE THE US GOVERNMENT THE GUARDIAN OF THE INTERNET?

I think there are priorities like finding a way to end the drug use in the US so my country's drug cartels can't have the largest market of consumers.

They had servers (hundreds) in the U.S. and committed fraud against US customers.

I am NOT defending the US government (and others) against their attack on filesharing sites. But Megaupload is unique - their management was comprised of people who were *already* criminals, and who were basically stealing money from their users.

I totally get that, and I think that program is reprehensible. However, I wasn't making any comparative argument here. I think both are wrong, and both should be prosecuted.

OK, that part, I don't agree with. It IS from the inside. these were crimes committed IN the U.S., involving U.S. citizens. In the same way, if foreigners commit crimes in Mexico, against Mexican citizens, shouldn't they be prosecuted and punished?

It happens, like the drug war, because governments outside the USA are too pusillanimous or corrupted by US money to stand up to US government pressure.

The Mexican government could abolish the cartels tomorrow by full legalization. But that would mean standing up to US pressure. Better to let 10,000 die each year and millions live under narco control than cut off the gravy train of Gringo bribery and stare down the world's largest army.
